There are so many websites that relate to religion, it can be an overwhelming task to find what’s really useful. Maybe you’re looking for statistics on religions, or you want to compare philosophies, or just find the dates of upcoming religious holidays. This month’s issue of ResearchNOTES offers a few handy sites for researching religion: The Association of Religion Data Archives, at www.thearda.com, is one of the top sites for religion-related statistics. I especially like their national and regional profiles, and the tool for comparing data for selected regions and countries. If you want a quick guide to the belief systems of religions throughout the world, check out Patheos (www.patheos.com). It’s a relatively new resource, and at the time of my last visit to the site I couldn’t get their comparison tool to work. But it’s definitely worth a look. Do you need a religious calendar? Visit the Interfaith Calendar at www.interfaithcalendar.org, a listing of “primary sacred times for world religions.” They currently show calendars for 2009-2019. They also have some other handy resources, such as a list of sites that cover the food requirements of various religions. Let me know what you think of these sites. See you next month!
